I Biorepositories Contributing to TCGA

A key requirement of TCGA is high-quality biospecimens. The initial set of institutions selected to contribute cancer collections to TCGA was announced in Fall 2006. However, the number of biorepositories affiliated with TCGA will fluctuate as necessary to accommodate the numbers of specimens needed to support statistical validity.
The biorepositories that contribute biospecimens play a key role in TCGA beyond being the source of high-quality, clinically-documented human tissue collections. The Principal Investigators who collected these resources are members of the project’s steering committee and provide their biomedical expertise in guiding the project.
As of May, 2008, the institutions contributing biospecimens for TCGA include:
Glioblastoma multiforme biospecimens:
- Duke University, Durham, North Carolina
- Emory University School of Medicine,
Winship Cancer Institute Brain Tumor Program, Atlanta, Georgia
- Henry Ford Hospital System, Department of Neurosurgery, Detroit, Michigan
- Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota
- MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas
- University of California at San Francisco Medical Center, San Francisco, California
Squamous cell adenocarcinoma of lung biospecimens:
- Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota
- MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas
- University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Serous cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary biospecimens:
- Gynecologic Oncology Group Tissue Bank, Children’s Hospital of the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio
- Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota
- MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas
- Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York
- University of California at San Francisco Medical Center, San Francisco, California
